Are Picas the Same as Inches?
Picas are a unit of measure that was established by the typography world. There is a very close relationship between the Pica and the Inch. There are 6 Picas per Inch. Defining further, there are 12 Points in each Pica. Therefore, using simple math, there are 72 points to an inch.
As type is measured in Points, these units of measure will not go away.
This unit of measure are a daily use item for designers using the letter size (8.5 x 11") and using the picas (51 x 66 Picas) it gets much easier to devid the 11 (or 66 picas) into three equal parts (22 Picas).
A basic simple conversion chart is included below so that the task that seemed impossible to understand until now is now readily understood and applied to the printing industry.
