Is the Paper Color Counted as a Color?
Whenever the colors are mentioned in print, the number is the quantity of colors that will be printed on the paper, not the inherent color of the paper. Therefore is the paper is WHITE, then the white is not counted as a color.
Therefore a two color printed piece is printed in two colors plus the color of the paper. Any color printed is counted, even black. In process color printing, the cheapest process to produce Business Cards, Post Cards, Brochures, Flyers, Inserts, Sell Sheets etc., is printed in 4 colors namely Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.
Sometimes a tint (a very light color) is printed in the background to achieve a color paper appearence. An example will be say a light blue color printed in the background, then the type and images printed on top of the blue. You will note that the photographs don't have any light blue under it, as the white color of the paper lends to the highlights of the picture.
